Liverpool are keeping an eye on Samuel Chukwueze of Villarreal.
This is according to Neil Jones in Goal, who is a Liverpool correspondent and has close ties to the club.
He suggests we’ve been scouting the 20-year-old flyer for some time, with Chukwueze expected to shortly outgrow the Spanish outfit.
“The scouts are already circulating – Liverpool are among those who have been alerted by his progress over the last 12 months – and the expectation is that he will move on sooner rather than later,” writes Jones.
The youngster is now a starter for Villarreal and has nine caps for Nigeria to boot.
He’s been heavily compared to Arjen Robben [BBC Sport] because of the fact he plays on the right wing and is extremely dependent on his excellent left-foot.
In this respect, he could be an interesting option when Mo Salah needs a rest – although he’s obviously got a very long way to go before he can even be considered a rotation option for our sublime Egyptian.
In fairness though, Jurgen Klopp’s decision not to invest in first-team recruitments during the summer so far looks the right one.
Of course, as the fixtures pile up after this international break, fitness will become a concern – and we’ll only truly know if it was a smart choice at the end of the campaign.
Summer 2020 will surely be a big one in terms of recruitment.
