Bobby Duncan nets first goals for Fiorentina after controversial move

Former Reds man Bobby Duncan was on target for his new side this afternoon as they beat Bologna at U19 level.

Duncan scored 30 times in 43 matches for the Reds youth sides last season, primarily for the U18s, and had begun this campaign with Neil Critchley’s U23s side until he forced his way out in search of regular first-team football.

While he was no doubt glad to get off the mark with his new club, that first-team action has not arrived as of yet. When Duncan was announced at Fiorentina, he was named as a youth signing rather than a senior addition, so the pathway to Serie A might not be straightforward.

No one was too pleased with the actions of Duncan’s agent Saif Rubie when he departed for Italy, but it will be interesting to see how the forward gets on abroad.

Ultimately, only time will tell as to whether or not he made the right call for the good of his long-term career.
