When Liverpool strolled past Bayern Munich on their own patch last season, on our way to Champions League glory, we were told they were no longer the force they used to be.
Under the same manager Niko Kovac, with almost the same team bar Coutinho and Benjamin Pavard, they absolutely destroyed Tottenham 7-2 at the London Stadium last night.
So, maybe Bayern were not a bad side after all, and perhaps that Liverpool performance in Germany, in which we won 3-1 at the Allianz and completely dominated the game, was actually the most underrated of the campaign?
Below, we’ve collated tweets from Reds who very much think Bayern’s demolition job in north London proves as much.
Serge Gnabry scored four goals in what was an absolute second-half riot for the exceptional Germans.
Over two legs, Liverpool allowed Bayern just two shots on our goal – and in the first-leg – Virgil van Dijk was suspended!
There’s levels to this game, Reds.
Last season when Liverpool did a job on this Bayern team, we were told that Bayern 'weren't the force they once were'.
Hmm.

Liverpool made everyone think that Bayern were past it last season.
Thank you Jürgen

Liverpool brushed Bayern aside at the Allianz like it was nothing. Cannot stress enough how far ahead Liverpool and City are on the rest of the league.

Remember when every rival fan said this is the worst Bayern side in years because Liverpool beat them in there own stadium? Yeh about that, you’re all talk 🖕🏼

So Tottenham fans is this the same ageing Bayern Munich team that beat you 7-2 tonight, the same one Liverpool beat 3-1 last season

Liverpool faced 2 shots on target in total against Bayern in an home and away game (180 minutes)
Tottenham have just faced 7 goals against Bayern in 90 minutes😂

These same @btsportfootball pundits lauding Bayern when they were saying they were past it when Liverpool beat them over two legs. Maybe Liverpool deserved more credit than they wanted to give us eh? @GaryLineker
