Ian Dennis of the BBC claims:

“Hearing Burnley striker Danny Ings signed pre contract terms last week with Real Sociedad. Yet to be confirmed but source is reliable.”

Last week it was heavily rumoured that we were going to sign the young English striker and then loan him back to Burnely for the rest of the season, only for the Clarets to embarrass the media and remind everyone that this was against Premier League rules.

However, the forward is out of contract in the summer, meaning any club could offer him a contract now, and if he accepts, he’d join them come the end of the season for free.

Ings has done well this term with struggling Burnley, notching seven top flight goals with the relegation battlers.

Despite this, Liverpool fans are unlikely to be disheartened by the news, hoping we instead move for a higher profile, more established striker to support recently returned Daniel Sturridge in time for next season.

Current backup options include out of favour Mario Balotelli, immobile Rickie Lambert and the hard-working (but ultimately poor finishing) Fabio Borini.
