Despite Brendan Rodgers claiming that Raheem Sterling will not be allowed to leave, it appears that we are already making plans that could see the forward move on in the summer.

According to the Daily Mail, we have placed a £60m price tag on the player, as we prepare for bids from Manchester City, Arsenal, and Chelsea.

The news comes despite Rodgers publicly stating that the 20-year-old will not be leaving Anfield, following the announcement that he does not intend to extend his current contract; BBC Sport reports.

However, the Mail suggest that the England international has spoken to Ian Ayre privately this week and demanded to leave Merseyside. And while Ayre informed him that he would be seeing out the final two years of his £35,000 a week deal, we may yet see him leave should any of the trio of Premier League sides match our valuation.

The general consensus from our supporters seems to be in favour of allowing Sterling to leave, should an offer close to that mark come in. His performances on the pitch have suffered as a result of this saga, while his behaviour off the pitch this year has been a constant distraction.

Sterling remains a wonderful young talent, something that has been somewhat lost on us recently. We just have to hope that he’ll eventually get his head down and start playing football again, rather than continuing this far too public battle of wills.
