Liverpool not in the race for Adama Traore, James Pearce claims

Despite continued reports that Barcelona starlet Adama Traore is flying to Liverpool to finalise a transfer this week, trusted journalist James Pearce of the Echo has claimed the stories are wide of the mark.

Countless publications, including the Echo themselves, sourced a claim from Sport in Spain that the 19-year-old was closing on a Merseyside switch having flown over for a medical, but Pearce reckons they’re false.

Instead, Traore will move to a smaller Premier League club, such as Stoke City or Aston Villa, with the young winger keen to play in England.

The revelation seems to make sense, as we certainly don’t need any more reinforcements in attacking midfield.

Already competing for two possible places in a potential 4-3-3 formation are Coutinho, Adam Lallana, Roberto Firmino, Jordon Ibe and Lazar Markovic – and barring the young Serb – all could make a telling argument for their inclusion versus Stoke next weekend.

If we do need to sign anyone before the window closes at the end of the month, it could be a full-back following Andre Wisdom’s loan departure to Norwich and the fact that Jose Enrique is surplus to requirements.
