In case it’s slipped your attention, we have our biggest and most important league match of the season this weekend as we face Manchester United at Anfield.
We go into the match three points behind our rivals, with a win clearly being absolutely essential if we still harbour hopes of finishing in the top four come May.
The reverse fixture back in mid-September saw us slump to an altogether uninspiring 3-1 loss, with then-boss Brendan Rodgers coming in for massive criticism post-match for his negative tactics.
While Brendan left many of us scratching our heads on that fateful afternoon, Brazilian new boy Roberto Firmino is certain that we won’t see a repeat this weekend.
“Manchester United are a big team and I know how big this derby is here,” Firmino said to the Echo.
“We have to be 100% focused. If we do as well as we did up front (against Arsenal) against them we have a good chance to win on Sunday. I hope I can play like that against all teams, not only the big teams.”
“Obviously it’s good to play well against the good teams but my aim here is to help the team by scoring goals and doing whatever I can on the pitch.”
Firmino scored twice on Wednesday night in our 3-3 draw with Arsenal in what was arguably his best performance of the season.
“I’m sad that we couldn’t win the game but I’m happy that I could help the team by scoring two goals and at least we got a draw in the end,” he said.
