Nigeria want Sheyi Ojo to represent them at international level, aware of the Liverpool youngster’s rapid progress at club level, reports the Daily Mail.

Still 18, Ojo has registered four assists and a goal for us this term, given a debut by Jurgen Klopp having been recalled from his loan spell at Wolves.

The teenager is powerful, fast and skilful, and has the potential to develop into a seriously good Premier League winger.

Ojo has Nigerian heritage so is eligible for selection, but has represented England at every youth level bar the Under-21s – impressing for the Under-18s especially.

Interestingly, Jordon Ibe had the same choice to make last year, but chose England – although he’s a very long way from international recognition following a stuttering season.

If Ojo chooses Nigeria, he’d potentially miss a large part of the season every other year for the African Cup of Nations, so from a Liverpool perspective, it’d perhaps be better if he chose to play for England – should that opportunity arise.

Ojo has the talent to play for either nation, but right now needs to focus on his performances at club level. Klopp will continue giving him opportunities if he continues to play at such a high level, and we cannot wait to see what the future holds for him.
