The ECHO identifies the ‘only significant deal’ likely to happen before the transfer window closes

It seems only right that Mamadou Sakho moves on in this transfer window, for the sake of his own career.

There has been no sign of Jurgen Klopp changing his mind on the Frenchman meaning he is likely to remain in the U23s squad until the summer if he doesn’t secure a move away this month.

Many have called for the return of the defender having seen Liverpool endure a difficult month yet there has been nothing to suggest he has any chance of breaking back into the first team.

The Liverpool Echo’s Neil Jones outlined Sakho’s potential departure as the only big name deal that could happen between now and the deadline, thereby completely ruling out the arrival of any new faces.

He said: “The only significant deal likely to be done at Anfield between now and Tuesday’s 11pm deadline is the departure of out-of-favour defender Mamadou Sakho.”

Sakho has not featured for the senior team since April last year due to being subject to a doping investigation as well as being sent home from the pre-season tour of America for breaking club rules.

Southampton have shown interest in the centre-back with Liverpool looking to strike up a permanent deal.

It will be a sad farewell for a man who fans began to love at one stage and we wish him the best if a move does take place.
