Gini Wijnaldum’s sensible analysis of Leicester City game is spot on

Gini Wijnaldum was in no mood to panic following Liverpool’s dropped points against Leicester City, simply saying while it would have been nice to make the gap to Manchester City seven points, five points isn’t a bad buffer at this stage.

The Dutch midfielder was one of a few who struggled in the wintery conditions at Anfield, but a point against Claude Puel’s team is respectable.

As Wijnaldum said, at this point in the season, a five-point gap is a great platform to work from.

He told LiverpoolFC.com: “We could’ve created a gap of seven points. At the end, it’s five but of course, we are disappointed that we couldn’t make it seven.

“Everyone is disappointed, but I think five points is also good. Every point that you can collect is good.”

The Reds will have the chance to bounce back against West Ham on Monday night, by which time Manchester City will have played Arsenal in what could be a tough game for them.

Unai Emery’s side have not always been great against the top sides this season, but hopefully, they can do the Reds a favour at the Etihad.

With 14 games to go, now is not the time to panic. Wijnaldum is spot on – it’s a point more than we had before.
