LFC set to award winger surprise 5-year contract

This feels like a strange one, to us.

Liverpool are set to offer young winger Sheyi Ojo a five-year contract, according to Guardian journalist Andy Hunter.

The 21-year-old has been at Reims this season, but hasn’t exactly shone. Ojo made just three Ligue 1 starts for for the mid-table side, which is not exactly the kind of form which suggests he has a serious future in our first-team.

Hunter says Ojo will be shipped on loan again next season after he signs a contract, which hints to us that Liverpool are simply hoping he finds form and we can make a profit.

Ojo’s current deal expires this summer, which means he’ll depart on a Bosman unless he puts pen to paper.

We can understand Liverpool’s plan – after all – we’ve invested a lot in the development of Ojo. But from the player’s perspective, it might be smart for him to sign permanently somewhere he’ll get minutes.

The issue with Ojo is that he’s never been a consistent starter for anybody. Whatever happens, we hope it works out for the flyer, who undeniably has talent.
