‘Dream big’: Jordan Henderson sends out strong message ahead of the new campaign

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson says that Reds fans should ‘dream big’ this summer – because the players are focused on adding even more trophies to the Anfield cabinet.

Writing in the official matchday programme ahead of the first Premier League fixture of the 2019/20 campaign against Norwich City, Henderson says the Reds are focused ahead of the new season, with the Champions League win in Madrid now out of their minds.

Pre-season has been the perfect opportunity to get minds switched on for the new season, and the captain is confident that has been done.

Henderson wrote: “Someone showed me a Twitter exchange over the summer that actually captures the mentality we’re looking for, not just this coming season but in general.

“It was a poll by supporters asking to pick the club’s greatest ever European night at Anfield. A Liverpool-supporting journalist replied ‘The. Next. One.’

“For us that’s the focus for this season – on to the next one. That mantra isn’t about just European nights or trophies and titles in general, it’s about each and every match we play.

“As a team we want our supporters to dream big. We want everyone to have the biggest ambitions possible. It’s our job to deliver.”

After becoming European champions, every team the Reds face will see them as being even more of a potential scalp, so the players will need to be ready for that straight from the off.

Starting tonight at Anfield, every three points in the league will matter in the battle for top spot with Manchester City. As European champions, though, the Reds should fancy their chances, and should be fearing no one.
