You got to love the media spin, they always find a way to turn stories negatively against Liverpool.
Such is the case with the Carlsberg sponsorship, “Carlsberg dumping Liverpool” read one headline, bollocks.
Carlsberg without a doubt has been a great sponsor for 17 years and is probably one of the longest running shirt sponsorships in the world. However things have changed a lot since the days when the original contract was signed.
First of all there is the issue of alcohol sponsorship in sports, there is a huge movement to ban alcohol advertising in sports like they did with tobacco. Some countries such as France & Norway already have such bans and it will not be long until this ban is imposed across Europe which will of course leave Liverpool playing with a sponsor-less shirt for many games.
Then there is the issue of the Leppings Lane sponsorship, Carlsberg sponsors the Leppings Lane end of the Hillsborough stadium. Of course this really does not go down well for many Liverpool supporters, sponsoring the very spot where 96 brothers & sisters lost their lives.
The third issue of course is money, Carlsberg probably have the best sponsorship deal in the world. They pay around £2.5 million per season, while the Manure & Chelsea sponsors pay around £10 million+. I quite honestly can not see a beer company paying £10 million per year on a shirt sponsorship.
So one thing is probably certain is that our 2010/11 shirt will have a new sponsorship.
really hoping that liverpool would change their sponsor to non-alcoholic brands…e.g. insurance company, electronic good..where more money could be gained…
WE ARE LOSING NEW FANS – My Nephew is at the age where he is becoming a football fan, his dad & uncles are all die hard reds, he was taken to a “build a bear” shop in Belfast and wanted his bear in a football kit, they do not stock LFC merchandise due to the Carlsberg sponsorship, to my disgust he opted for a Chelsea kit, he now asks for Chelsea stuff as presents. My concern aside, Carlsberg is piss!
well that would change the look of the shirt ALOT, but still it is better funding-wise
I’ve heard a couple of rumours flying around….
1. is coca cola, goes well with the shirt.
2. the more likely – LG Electronics.
Carlsberg’s sponsorship of the Leppings Lane End should be enough to ensure we don’t get them back again.
I love the Carlsberg, if they changed it, i would have to buy my Gerrard Shirt right away with the Logo still on it before its gone! I understand its bout the advertisement of a drug, but still, you see many teams in south america with corona light! I drink no alcohol whatsoever, and seeing advertisements on my team doesn’t make me feel obligated to do so .. but if its for the younger kids, then i guess we may need to consider..

I love Carlsberg it is one of my favourite beers.
but we’ve gone so used to the Carlsberg shirts! I like them! I simply just couldn’t imagine the shirts without the Carlsberg logo…..
It’s a shame we’ll lose Carlsberg, they always been in the liverpool shirt since I follow the Reds and it would be a big change for me personally… I still like the beer and i understand they don’t give us enough cash but that’s really a pity :(
Frankly I dont want to see the sponsor taken off the shirts…….Of course I’m also in America where beer is all over our ads. But honestly, I’m more concerned about how we can get those stupid owners away from the club so they dont do any more damage to it……Americans need to realize they just shouldnt have anything to do with good teams……(except for being fans of them) If they need to change the sponsor they should also realize they need to change owners
