Remembering the 96 in 120 characters or less for 96 times

Posted by
Starting at midnight (UK Time) and over the course of ten hours, the names of all the Hillsborough victims will be tweeted out one every six minutes.

I could have probably reduced the number of Tweets but wanted to remind those following @empireofthekop what was lost on the 15th of April 1989. I am sure that we will lose some followers who are not Liverpool supporters and quite frankly I do not care. I am not going to apologise over the number of Tweets, I do hope that they all will go out.

Many times we refer to the victims as the ninety-six but we tend to forget that each one of them was someone special, a son, a daughter, a brother, a sister, a father or a mother. A better way to understand the impact on family and friends is to think of it as one special person died ninety-six times.

For twenty-one years the  families of the victims had to deal with the loss of their loved ones and knowing that those responsible for the disaster have never faced a trial by a jury. To add insult to injury they still see Kelvin MacKenzie on TV or on adverts promoting The Sc*m newspaper. MacKenzie never regretted the vile lies his publication wrote about the survivors and the victims of the tragedy. The families and survivors still have to deal with chants of “96 are not enough” and stupid idiots who print shirts or post stuff on the Internet which are derogatory to those who lost their lives.

Lest we forget our brothers and sisters:
