Reports in the Daily Mirror are claiming that City will make a £40m move within the next 48 hours as they step up their pursuit of the England international, who is widely believed to be their number one summer transfer target.

According to the Mirror, Manuel Pellegrini’s side are prepared to offer Sterling £180,000-per-week to make the deal happen, as they fret about their need for more home-grown players to meet Premier League regulations.

City were apparently not surprised to see their opening offer – tipped to be as much as £30m by the Mirror – rejected and have therefore been quick to come back with an improved package.

Liverpool reportedly want £50m before we’ll even consider selling but the two-time Premier League champions want to test our resolve by edging closer to that figure.

The report states that Arsenal are also interested – while Sterling would prefer a move to London – but the Gunners aren’t willing to meet the asking price. Manchester United have also been eyeing Sterling but there’s seemingly no chance of us selling to our long-time rivals.
