The wantaway Reds forward posted on the social media website last night and recommended a song that he described as a ‘banger’. His message led to a torrent of abuse from fellow Twitter users, with fans using words such as greedy, money-grabbing and several far less pleasant terms to describe the youngster.

Sterling has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester City after turning down a new contract at Anfield earlier this year. As BBC Sport confirm, Liverpool have already rejected two bids from City for the England international, with their most recent offer believed to be worth around £40m.

The 20-year-old rejected a new £100,000-per-week deal to remain on Merseyside, although as the BBC tells us he still has two years left to run on his current contract and faces a battle to force his way out of the club.

Sterling’s agent, Aidy Ward, sparked controversy in May when he claimed that Sterling wouldn’t sign a new deal for as much as £900,000-per-week. He also slammed Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher and said he didn’t care about the club, as The Independent explains.

Below you can see Sterling’s Tweet and a selection of the replies…

It’s important for us to say that some of the tweets (possibly now deleted) were of an obscene and racist nature, which we find totally disgusting – regardless of anything a player has done to our club. We obviously haven’t included them.

One person did at least taking into account the correct subject matter…

Perhaps Sterling would be best to avoid social media for a while!
