Danny Ings confident of Liverpool success, despite imminent Benteke signing

Danny Ings has promised to fight for his place at Liverpool next season, despite the imminent arrival of Christian Benteke from Aston Villa in a big-money deal – report the Daily Mirror.

Benteke will become the eighth striker in Liverpool’s first-team squad, with his arrival following that of Ings’ move from Burnley and Divock Origi’s return from his loan spell at Lille. With Daniel Sturridge also due back from injury over the next couple of months, competitions for places is going to intense.

But Ings, who is likely to be our third choice striker behind Benteke and Sturridge, is pleased by our signing of the Belgian. In quotes taken by the Mirror, he explained that the club should be signing quality players and that he didn’t expect anything else during his time at Anfield.

“At a club like this it is expected to sign top players,” he said. “It can only lift you as a player because it is all competition to get that starting place.

“I moved here knowing that there was going to be big signings here on top of the quality that is already here. For me it is all about developing and being the best I can be every day and try to compete against those players.”

Ings has impressed during our first two pre-season games, starting both matches against the Thai All-Stars and Brisbane Roar. On Friday, he came very close to his first game in a Liverpool shirt, but was cruelly denied.
