Spanish winger jets in for Liverpool medical

Our pursuit of Barcelona starlet Adama Traore is gathering momentum, with Catalan newspaper Sport (cited here in the Echo) claiming that the 19-year-old will be heading to Melwood soon for a medical.

Liverpool officials were in Barcelona last week to thrash out terms on a transfer (via Express), although as of yet, there’s no official word on an agreed fee between the clubs.

Traore is comfortable on either the left or right flank, and prides himself on his pace and power. Stylistically, he’s similar to Jordon Ibe in that respect, but has so far been largely restricted to appearances for Barcelona B, although he has played Champions League minutes for the first-team.

Traore’s path to regular first-team football is of course restricted at Barcelona with Luis Suarez, Neymar and Lionel Messi guaranteed starting spots – although in truth – it’s going to very difficult for Traore to start for Liverpool either.

We have Lazar Markovic, Ibe, Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Adam Lallana all vying for spots in attacking midfield, with Divock Origi also capable of playing on the wing.

Because of this, targeting Traore seems a little strange, although it would still be exciting for us to acquire one of the most highly rated teenagers in Europe from the Spanish giants.
